Low carat gold sovereigns.
We have seen an increase in the number of low carat sovereigns coming over the counter, please be aware of these when purchasing sovereigns.
Heavy gold plated Kruggerands.
A customer came in with 4 Kruggerands that he thought were 18ct copies, and had paid 18ct price for them. These copies are very heavy gold plated and will even take a light file. We cut one in half to show the customer that it was a composite base metal worth nothing. The weight was correct at 34 gram. There are also 9ct gold plated copies being passed around.
Heavy 9ct curb chain only 1/4 gold, 3/4 gold plated.
Have now seen quite a few long 9ct curb chains come in with just 3" on each end of the chain real 9ct with a hallmark. They have matched the centre part of the chain with an accurate gold plated copy of the two ends, always test the centre of any 9ct moderate to heavy neck chains.
Full Sovereign weighs just 4 gram.
Picture of a full sovereign we had in the post today, full sovereign size and was 22ct gold, but only weighed 4 grams.
